The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department nor any of its deputies or employees will NEVER contact individuals by telephone and solicit fine payments, fees, penalties, nor ask for donations.

Police officers nor deputies collect any type of payments. Payments are routinely handled in person by the administrative office of the court, circuit court clerk, or the administrative staff in person at the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department for tax collection purposes.

There have been several recent reports of criminals posing as members of the Whitley County Sheriff’s department over the telephone. The criminals are calling citizens to solicit money for fine payments and threatening criminal penalties and jail time and then requesting payment be made via green dot / pre-paid cards.

Please remain vigilant and do not provide any type of payment or personal information over the telephone. Similar scams have also been reported in Laurel County.
